Babelfish can import data from virtually any spreadsheet, existing databases via ODBC or any delimited text file.

The system can then automatically create entire publications using this information with page templates setup in QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign. To do this it uses page markup tags such as Quark Tags, XTags, XML or InDesign Tags.

Coupled with the tags are a series of rules you can set up to control the appearance of your catalogue. These rules break down into two groups; Condition and Change Rules. A typical condition rule might be "Use this tag when the Saving field is higher than 50%" to create a price flash. A typical change rule might be "Use when the Section field changes" to create a new heading on the page. The rules are constructed using English phrases from pop-up lists so it couldn't be easier!

Because no data that you're supplied with is perfect, Babelfish has several methods of correcting information. Filters can be created which will parse the data and provide sophisticated search and replace functions. You can also format any data in a variety of formats. Dates, time, money and numbers can all be formatted in a huge selection of built-in or custom styles.

Text can be one of the most awkward types of data to format. Babelfish can format text in uppercase, lowercase, word-cap or grammatically capitalised and flow it into columns to create sophisticated word wrapping and tables.

With data import, new style and filter creation and exporting onto page taking only minutes, the time taken for the creation of catalogues, leaflets, directories, price lists and reference books can be cut from months to minutes.

Babelfish is a client-server or single user relational database, which runs on Macintosh or PC, clients or servers. Compatible with Mac OS 9 and higher (including Mac OS X) and Windows 98 and higher (including Windows XP)
